Iced Matcha Coconut Water Wake Up Drink

I can’t think of a clever Starbucks-ian name for it. Leave a comment below if you can think of one! This is a very simple and quick drink to make for a little caffeine, electrolyte and vitamin boost with breakfast. Some folks do shots of greens in the morning (remember the wheatgrass craze?) but I think this is much tastier, easier and more balanced. There are just 4 ingredients: Matcha, a greens powder of your choice, coconut water and a touch of maple syrup or agave. Its a very “green” drink so if you like that flavor profile you’ll love this.
This drink is a great candidate for your weekly meal prep. Just blend it in a jar with a tight fitting lid and toss it in your lunch bag.
This drink is vegan and dairy free. Though of course you could replace the coconut water with a milk of your choice and it becomes a kind of latte, but the hydrating electrolyte properties of coconut water are what make this drink a healthy choice to get your brain and body waking up in the morning.
There’s a time and a place for proper Matcha ceremonies. But no need to break out the fancy Matcha whisk set for this. The trick to making this very quick drink is one of those handheld milk frother wand thingys. It takes literally seconds and leaves a nice cap of foam behind (fancy!). These lovely devices cost less than $10 and can be found nearly everywhere that sells coffee products. An exception might be something like this which has a fancy stand, comes with batteries and costs $14 or this one with all kinds of attachments for $24. But my totally non-sponsored, honest review, is to go as simple as possible. This is the one I use which set me back about $2 at IKEA. They don’t last forever, but it gives you an excuse to go to IKEA! I tend to keep a cycle of rechargeable batteries in my home (it’s a mom thing, am I right?).
And, speaking of cost, this is a pretty cheap drink to make. With the ingredients I use, I priced each drink out to less than $2 each. It takes only seconds to put together, is very low in sugar and full of health benefits. And you know exactly what goes into each drink – that kind of peace of mind is priceless.
